Our Daily Bread's Artful Living: Seeing the Beauty Within event raised $45,000 to further their work to empower individuals and families in the Fairfax County area who are struggling to move from a place of need to true financial self-sufficiency!

    When: July 5 - July 26, 2014

    My painting, "Facing," was selected for the Hillyer Art Space's Flesh & Bone exhibition, which focuses on contemporary figurative art, pushing boundaries and providing a fresh look at the familiar subject of the human figure. This exhibition was juried by DC-based artist Judy Byron, and features works by local and regional artists. The opening reception is Friday, July 11th from 6-9pm.

    Parallax Art Fair grew out of an international exhibition called Parallax that was conceived and curated by Dr. Chris Barlow in London at the Royal Opera Arcade. Parallax AF London is now into its seventh edition and has exhibited object makers of every kind from all over the world.

    Like the original exhibition, at the heart of the fair is the practical exploration of new and radical ideas that developed within the professional discipline of art history.

    Artomatic is the DC-area's biggest arts festival, with over 1,300 artists participating this year! This art show is free and open to the public. With 9 floors of visual and interactive art, bars, stages, and the Bus Boys & Poets pop-up cafe, you will definitely have a good time! My painting can be found on the 8th floor, in the window office overlooking Crystal Drive and 20th Street. (Section 283)

Ofrenda - Art for the Dead is an art exhibition of local artists' shrines and altars, masked ball, and parade and other art based on the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) tradition. Dia de los Muertos is a time to honor the dead and celebrate the continuity of life. This show has been a lot of fun in the past!

    The fourth annual Ofrenda art exhibition, masked ball, and parade will be held in Old Town Alexandria at the Torpedo Factory on Saturday October 30, 2010 from 4 pm - 10 pm.

  • 9.09.2009 :: MINDFUL MEDITATION FOR ENHANCED CREATIVITY

    I am co-teaching a mindful meditation group with Rusty Lynn at Convergence in Alexandria, VA. The class runs from September 14, 2009 through November 9, 2009. Please email with questions.

    This 8 session group will introduce you to mindful meditation and visualization practice to enhance and revitalize your creative potential.

    This group will make use of guided visualization to examine creative blocks. We will learn and practice mindful meditation to lend grace and excitement to our daily lives, thus allowing creativity to flow freely. Participants are encouraged to develop a regular daily practice of meditation. Each session includes guided visualization or mindful meditation, a period for individual reflection with journaling or sketching in response to guiding questions and closes with a period of sharing.

The show, an artdc.org and Art Outlet collaboration, is being held in partnership with Halstead Arlington and the Columbia Pike Revitalization Organization (CPRO)....   • 8.23.2009 :: AKRIDGE HALF STREET MURAL PROJECT

    This past weekend I painted a public mural at Half Street and the entrance to Nationals Stadium. Each muralist is retained by Akridge to paint during Nationals' home games to bring attention to revitalization efforts in Southeast DC. The mural will be up for one week.

    Caren was one of many artists to participate in artdc's 12x12 show.

    artdc.org presents a new show at the artdc gallery at 5710 Baltimore Ave. Hyattsville, MD 20781. In this all inclusive show artists were invited to submit art limited to 1 square foot, 12”x12”. Each 12”x12” space in the show had a $12 hanging fee. Works were submitted including, but not limited to, photography, painting, mixed media, sculpture, lead, ceramics, glass, and more.

    All art sales benefit Empowered Women International (EWI). EWI promotes the art of immigrant, refugee and culturally diverse women and communities, and creates sustainable livelihoods through the arts.
